Enjoy Monferrato

One of the most beautiful castles in Monferrato: Montemagno, a medieval village that preserves its imposing and splendid castle.

There are a thousand and more legends that develop around the castle of Montemagno. A perfectly preserved medieval fortification that dominates the edge and the hill on which it stands.

Tour Torri e Castelli del Monferrato in Vespa

The castle, with its majestic presence, stands like a stone book that narrates centuries of history. Its walls, silent witnesses of past eras, tell of battles and noble deeds through the signs of time imprinted in every stone.

The original structure, once an imposing fortress, has been transformed over the centuries, adapting to the needs and lifestyles that have followed one another. The pointed-arch windows, with their polychrome details, reveal the skill of 14th-century craftsmen, while the dovetail battlements and hanging arches reflect the warrior art of an era when defense was a priority.

The eighteenth-century interventions then added a touch of elegance, with rectangular windows and balconies overlooking the surrounding landscape, offering a timeless view.

Inside, the castle reveals itself to be a maze of halls and rooms, each with its own history, furnished with furniture that is works of art in itself, paintings that capture moments of daily life and celebrations, objects that have spanned the centuries .

Every corner of the castle is an invitation to travel through time, to imagine the lives of those who walked on those ancient wooden floors, who admired the same frescoes and who breathed the same air full of history.

Crossing the drawbridge and crossing the threshold of the castle means entering another world, where the past and present intertwine in a timeless dialogue. Lodovico Vergano, in his visit, captured the essence of this magical place, where architectural beauty and artistic richness blend to create an atmosphere of serenity and grandeur. The castle, more than a simple building, is a guardian of memories, a sentinel who watches over the stories of those who lived and loved it.

And so, as the sun sets and the shadows lengthen on the ancient walls, the castle continues to live, to inspire and to tell its immortal story.

But the castle of Montemagno is not only a place of great historical interest, it is also and, for me, above all a place where you can walk while admiring the surrounding hills which during clear days take us with our gaze towards the entire Alpine range up to and including Ligurian Apennines. Around the castle there is this splendid walk from which you can admire a wonderful panorama even with free binoculars to project your gaze beyond the horizon.

There are many beauties and curiosities that surround this village: the medieval alleys that lead to the castle, the splendid  Parish Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary with its colonnade from which it is possible to take incredible photos of the hilly landscape that surrounds the village with columns that act as a frame, the square where the market takes place which is actually dedicated to the “tamburello” (a sport very popular in these areas which has its roots in the Monferrato tradition and beyond)… Montemagno is a town where you can discover history, meet the local culture and why not, taste some excellent wines.

Montemagno, together with Castagnole Monferrato, Grana, Portacomaro, Refrancore, Scurzolengo and Viarigi, is also one of the DOCG municipalities for the production of Ruché, a red wine with intense aromas and a strong character. Absolutely worth trying.

Another of the destinations for a Vespa tour not to be missed in Monferrato where you can spend and discover beauties still hidden from most that reveal the authentic soul of these places and where you can get lost in time.
